Expedited Approval Process

Expedited Approval Process

Welland offers a coordinated and speedy approach to obtaining the necessary site plan approvals and building permits

Instead of just policing, the City of Welland assists in streamlining your projects. City Staff have proven time and time again that Welland can get your project to the construction phase faster than anywhere else. If you don’t believe us, just ask some of the companies that have recently invested in Welland. We have aligned ourselves to work in a business and entrepreneurial mindset and will work with your timeline to get you to the building phase fast.

A key tool to our proven process is the Development Team Approach which combines building, economic development, planning, engineering, and utility representatives into one development team. This allows investors and developers to work with all services at one time. The end result is a coordinated and speedy approach to obtaining the necessary site plan approvals and building permits.

The City of Welland uses other effective tools to reduce red-tape and promote economic development which include the following:

  • Pre-consultation Meetings
  • New Comprehensive Zoning By-law
  • Site Plan Approval delegated to staff
  • Conditional permits
  • Community Improvement Plans
  • Development Charges Exemptions/Grant
