Angel Creary makes fancy cupcakes and various sweets and she’s a self-made entrepreneur who recently opened a new shop in downtown Welland.

Angel Caters, specializing in artistic baked goods, opened on East Main Street on Easter Monday, her 22nd birthday.

Located at The Galleria, a cluster of small businesses that includes a photography outlet and a tattoo shop, Creary’s bakery is open for pickup only at the moment due to COVID-19 precautions, so customers cannot come inside to browse her selection yet.

Creary moved to Welland from Jamaica in 2016. Since then, she has graduated Niagara College’s business program and welcomed a baby boy into the world about a year ago.

She works full-time as night audit manager at Hilton Fallsview in the Niagara Falls tourist district, while also balancing family life and her side business, which she started from home in 2018.

“I don’t know how I do it, but somehow I do it,” she said.

New customers appeared rapidly after she increased her social media presence on Instagram and Facebook, creating the need to move her operation from home to the downtown Welland storefront she’s in now — a small 350-square-foot area covered from top to bottom in bright pink.
