Retired Welland economic development officer Dan Degazio honoured for his work
Even though Dan Degazio retired as Welland’s economic development officer in the spring, his work is being recognized by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO).
Degazio, who spent 30 years as a city councillor and employee, was named in the EDCO’s top 10.
The honour is awarded to an individual who demonstrated overall excellence in the economic development profession and delivered local initiatives that resulted in a positive impact in their respective community, a city news release said.
“When you look at the body of work in Dan’s time in the role, you’re looking at a great deal of accomplishment,” said Mayor Frank Campion. “I would estimate that during his tenure as the manager of economic development, he and his team brought in investment over $1 billion, and we see that strong legacy continues with our current team.”
In addition to city duties, Degazio was an active member of EDCO and a driving force of the EDCO Investment Alliance.
“EDCO’s 1,100 members are dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to enhance their local economies, quality of life and investment opportunities. To be selected as a Top Ten demonstrates the level of achievement that Degazio reached,” said part a letter sent to the city by the organization.
